I’m a strategy and insight professional specialising in travel and consumer trends. I cut my teeth writing across The Telegraph’s lifestyle division before joining SUITCASE Magazine’s award-winning digital team as Assistant Editor. Having travelled extensively to research emerging ideas, from snail farms in Peru to VR holidays in the metaverse, I now help brands identify cultural and consumer shifts and translate them into clear, actionable insight. At TrendWatching, I worked with brands including Marriott, McDonald's and the Royal Bank of Canada to develop company-wide futures literacy. Alongside my current role as Strategy Lead at Globetrender, I continue to publish insight-led writing on travel and consumer trends, with recent bylines in Condé Nast Traveller and The Times. therobbiehodges@gmail.com

Coming Out, but Going Nowhere: Why the Shadow of My Failed Lads Holiday Still Haunts Me
Condé Nast Traveller

For a gay boy firmly strapped into London’s commuter belt, 2013 held great promise. The unrelenting seven-year slog of secondary school would finally come to an end – and with it, the homophobic white noise I’d grown accustomed to, along with the evenings spent cocooning myself in A-Level practice papers. This was it...

Charting the newly AI-powered customer journey
Trendwatching

How are rapid advancements in AI likely to impact the end-to-end customer journey, and what must marketing teams do now to stake their claim on the future? I delivered a keynote presentation at Eye filmmuseum Amsterdam as part of TrendWatching's 2025 Hopeful Futures seminar.

SIRO: The Hotel Betting on a Fitness-First Future

Globetrender

"Glowing skin, stronger hair, clear mind, sharp focus". I hadn't so much as stepped out of Dubai airport, but already, I was drunk on SIRO - gleefully sprinkling the purple electrolytes into my Voss water, supped in the rear seats of a Merc as the city's blanched Miami Vice landscape hovered through hot air and tinted windows...

Amadeus: Travel Trends 2026

Researched and authored the Amadeus 2026 Travel Trends report, a flagship annual piece of business intelligence examining developments such as the rise of ultra-long-haul aircraft and the ways new cultural IP are reshaping global travel patterns.

Virtual travel is finally about to take off - and not for the reasons you'd expect

The Telegraph

The hottest destination of the next decade? It won’t be far-flung or hyperlocal; it will be hard-coded. If the current trajectory of technological advancement is any indication, then all of us – Mum, Dad, Grandma and the kids – will soon be swapping our sunglasses for hi-tech headsets and holidaying together in “the metaverse”.

Compass in the storm: Macro-trend opportunities
Globetrender

For Globetrender's debut corporate retreat in Norway, I devised and led a three-hour macro-trend workshop for travel professionals across the sector, examining how forces such as algorithm fatigue, destabilised notions of 'home' and the transformation economy are changing travellers' expectations.

Undoing the Damage of the Amazon Gold Rush – One Mollusc at a Time

Telegraph Magazine

Kept cool under a tarpaulin canopy are six barrels of Apple Snails, soon to be served up for dinner with a delicious peppery garnish at Reserva Amazonica. The idea is for snails to become a regional speciality, one which can be exported profitably...

North London’s Warehouse District: Gentrification’s Last Frontier?

SUITCASE

Harringay Warehouse District might have built its reputation on an underground party scene led by an iridescent cast of creative lodgers but, as plans are set in motion to build a gleaming new pavilion on the area’s grotty fringe, we ask what the future holds for this little-known, alternative enclave in north London.

'Want to Tackle Climate Change? See The World From an Elephant's Perspective'

Telegraph Travel

Unlike her peers, Saba Douglas-Hamilton’s childhood wasn’t spent pushing her nostrils up against glass zoo enclosures but confronting the reality of Africa’s poaching epidemic first hand. By day she could be found traipsing the savanna, by evening gunfire lullabies carried her to sleep; such is the bizarre life of a conservation dynasty heiress...

Informed by internal company data and interviews with a global network of subject experts, I researched and authored the British Airways Holidays 2026 Travel Trends Report.
